DR JANE DUFF

Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of the NSIC Psychology Service

Jane has worked at the NSIC since 1997, has over 20 peer reviewed publications, with an H-index of 8, and is regularly requested to write chapters in textbooks.  Her research interests span themes of appraisals, coping, and mood; screening for psychological and psychosocial adjustment; and self-management and rehabilitation outcome. Jane is the UK Principal Investigator for 2 international research grants, Chief Investigator for the UK Psychological Health SCI data study, co-ordinating 11 research sites, and a psychology expert and collaborator with a Chartered Society of Physiotherapy grant.  Jane co-ordinates the local, national, and international reach of the Stoke Mandeville Spinal Needs Assessment Checklist (SMS-NAC) and Goal Planning Programme.  She was one of two psychology experts on the WHO 2030 Package of Interventions for Rehabilitation SCI Module Development Group and Chairs the European Spinal Psychologists Association and International Spinal Cord Society Psychosocial Special Interest Group.

DR ELIZABETH POUNDS-CORNISH

Principal Clinical Psychologist (NSIC) and Lead of the Burns Psychology Service

Liz has worked at the NSIC since 2007 and has been Lead of the Burns Psychology service since 2008. She has several peer reviewed publications, and has a special interest in research and service development focused on how to best support multi-disciplinary staff members to meet the psychological needs of their patients. Since 2025 Liz has also been a member of the Spinal Injuries Association’s Health and Care Advisory Group.

Family Counsellor

Kim is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, registered with the BPS and HCPC, and an experienced Integrative psychotherapist. Kim has worked as Family Counsellor at the NSIC since 2018, supporting individuals and family groups in their rehabilitation journeys. Kim gained her doctorate in counselling psychology and psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute, London, UK. Kim has previously worked in NHS roles in family and bereavement services, and also in the voluntary sector, for Mind mental health charity, Headway brain injury charity, and also Samaritans suicide prevention.

    DR JESS DRING

    Clinical Psychologist and Postdoctoral Research Associate

    Dr Jessica Dring is a Clinical Psychologist and BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Oxford and specialises in supporting people living with long-term physical health conditions, including spinal cord injury. She has extensive experience working across inpatient and outpatient NHS services. Jessica works with people of all ages at the National Spinal Injuries Centre, with a particular interest in working with children and young people, and is the primary psychologist for the paediatric service. Alongside her clinical work, Jessica contributes to service development and both service-related and international research aimed at improving care for people living with spinal cord injury.

    DR SEAN HILL

    Clinical Psychologist and Postdoctoral Research Associate

    Dr Sean Hill is a Clinical Psychologist and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC). He is a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) therapist and systemic practitioner at intermediate level. His current work focuses on psychological and rehabilitation outcomes following spinal cord injury, with involvement in service-level projects and international collaborations within the NSIC. Sean also has external research collaborations in the UK in the areas of cardiovascular health, perinatal health, coping and adjustment and suicidology.

            Assistant Psychologist

            Manni joined the team in November 2025 and supports a broad range of administrative, clinical, and research activities. Prior to joining NSIC, she developed extensive qualitative and quantitative research experience working with children and young people in schools across London and South-East England. Alongside her research work, she delivered transdiagnostic, group-based interventions and gained valuable experience within primary care settings. Manni aims to pursue the doctorate in clinical psychology, with a particular passion for integrating psychological approaches within physical healthcare contexts.
